PRELUDE

HYMN: YE CHOIRS OF NEW JERUSALEM HA&M. 128

Blessed be God: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.
And blessed be his kingdom, now and for ever. Amen.

Christ is risen. Alleluia.
He is risen indeed. Alleluia.

Grace and peace to you from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ. Amen.

THE COLLECT FOR PURITY

Almighty God, to you all hearts are open, all desires known, and from you no secrets are
hid: Cleanse the thoughts of our hearts by the inspiration of your Holy Spirit, that we
may perfectly love you, and worthily magnify your holy Name; through Christ our Lord.
Amen.

THE CONFESSION

God is love, and we are his children. There is no room for fear in love: we love because he
loved us first. Let us confess our sins in penitence and faith.
We confess to God Almighty, the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit, and to all our
fellow members in the Body of Christ, that we have sinned in thought, word and
deed, and in what we have left undone.

SIlence

Most loving Father, where sin has divided and scattered, may your love make one
again; where sin has brought weakness, may your power heal and strengthen; where
sin has brought death, may your Spirit raise to new life.

God who is both power and love, set you free from your sins, help you to new ways of
living and give you the power and healing of his Holy Spirit. Amen.
The Lord has freed us from our sin.
Thanks be to God.

THE GLORIA IN EXCELSIS

Glory to God in the highest and peace to his people on earth.
Lord God, heavenly King almighty God and Father, we worship you, we give you thanks, we praise you for your glory.
Lord Jesus Christ, only Son of the Father, Lord God, Lamb of God, you take away the
sins of the world; have mercy on us; you are seated at the right hand of the Father
receive our prayer.
For you alone are the Holy One, you alone are the Lord, you alone are the Most High,
Jesus Christ with the Holy Spirit, in the glory of God the Father. Amen.

THE COLLECT OF THE DAY

The Lord be with you.
And also with you.

Let us pray.
O

God, your Son made himself known to his disciples in the breaking of bread. Open the
eyes of our faith, that we may see him in his redeeming work, who is alive and reigns
with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen.

THE LESSONS

PSALM 4 Cum inuocarem

1 Answer me when I call, O God, defender of my cause;*
you set me free when I am hard-pressed; have mercy on me and hear my prayer.
2 ‘You mortals, how long will you dishonour my glory;*
how long will you worship dumb idols and run after false gods?’
3 Know that the Lord does wonders for the faithful;*
when I call upon the Lord, he will hear me.
4 Tremble, then, and do not sin;*
speak to your heart in silence upon your bed.
5 Offer the appointed sacrifices*
and put your trust in the Lord.
6 Many are saying ‘Oh, that we might see better times!’*
Lift up the light of your countenance upon us, O Lord.
7 You have put gladness in my heart,*
more than when grain and wine and oil increase.
8 I lie down in peace; at once I fall asleep;*
for only you, Lord, make me dwell in safety

  • After is said:

Glory to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit;
as it was in the beginning is now and shall be for ever. Amen.

HYMN: THE DAY OF RESURRECTION HA&M. 132

  • Then, all standing, the Priest reads the Gospel, first saying:

The Holy Gospel according to St. Luke, 24 chapter, beginning at the 36 verse.
Glory to you, Lord Christ.

36While the two were telling them this, suddenly the Lord himself stood among them and
said to them, “Peace be with you.” 37 They were terrified, thinking that they were seeing a
ghost. 38 But he said to them, “Why are you alarmed? Why are these doubts coming up in
your minds? 39 Look at my hands and my feet, and see that it is I myself. Feel me, and you
will know, for a ghost doesn’t have flesh and bones, as you can see I have.” 40 He said this and showed them his hands and his feet. 41 They still could not believe, they were so full of joy and wonder; so he asked them, “Do you have anything here to eat?” 42They gave him a piece of cooked fish, 43which he took and ate in their presence. 44Then he said to them, “These are the very things I told you about while I was still with you: everything written about me in the Law of Moses, the writings of the prophets, and the Psalms had to come true.” 45Then he opened their minds to understand the Scriptures, 46and said to them, “This is what is written: the Messiah must suffer and must rise from death three days later, 47and in his name the message about repentance and the forgiveness of sins must be preached to all nations, beginning in Jerusalem. 48You are witnesses of these things.

The Gospel of the Lord.
Praise to you, Lord Christ.

THE SERMON

THE APOSTLES’ CREED

I believe in God, the Father almighty, creator of heaven and earth. I believe in Jesus
Christ, his only Son, our Lord. He was conceived by the power of the Holy Spirit and
born of the Virgin Mary. He suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and
was buried. He descended to the dead. On the third day he rose again. He ascended
into heaven, and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again to
judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic Church,
the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and
the life everlasting. Amen.

THE PRAYERS OF THE PEOPLE

Let us pray for the Church and for the world; and let us thank God for his goodness.
Almighty God, our heavenly Father, who promised through your Son Jesus Christ to hear
us when we pray in faith; We pray for the Church throughout the world; our own Church;
our diocese and bishop; any particular work of the Church
Silence
Strengthen your Church to carry forward the work of Christ; that we and all who confess
your Name may unite in your truth, live together in your love, and reveal your glory in
the world. Lord, in your mercy.
Hear our prayer.

We pray for the nations of the world; our own nation; all men in their various callings.
Silence
Give wisdom to all in authority, especially Luís Inácio Lula da Silva our President: direct
this nation and all nations in the ways of justice and of peace: that men may honour one
another, and seek the common good. Lord, in your mercy
Hear our prayer.

We pray for the local community; our families and friends; particular persons.
Silence
Give grace to us, our families and friends, and to all our neighbours in Christ; that we
may serve him in one another, and love as he loves us. Lord, in your mercy.
Hear our prayer.

We pray for the sick and the suffering; those who mourn; those without faith. We give
thanks and pray for all those who serve them and relieve them.
Silence
Comfort and heal all those who suffer in body, mind or spirit; give them courage and
hope in their troubles; and bring them to the joy of your salvation. Lord, in your mercy.
Hear our prayer.

We pray for the departed.
Silence
We commend all men to your unfailing love, that in them your will may be fulfilled; and
we rejoice at the faithful witness of your Saints in every age, praying that we may share
with them in your eternal kingdom. Lord, in your mercy
Accept these prayers for the sake of your Son, our Saviour, Jesus Christ. Amen.

THE PEACE

We meet in Christ’s name: let us share his peace.
And also with you.

THE OFFERTORY

Let us with gladness present the offerings and oblations of our life and labor to the Lord.

  • During the offering, the hymn will be sung:

HYMN: JESUS CHRIST IS RISEN TODAY HA&M. 134

  • After the anthem, it will be said:

Generous God, accept the offering of your people for the work of your Church, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

THE GREAT THANKSGIVING

The Lord be with you.
And also with you.

Lift up your hearts.
We lift them to the Lord.

Let us give thanks to the Lord our God.
It is right to give him thanks and praise.

Worship and praise belong to you, Father, in every place and at all times. All power is
yours. You are without beginning and without end. You called into being all that is; you
created the heavens and established the earth, giving life to all.
Through your Son Jesus Christ our life and yours are brought together in a wonderful
exchange: divinity is bound to human nature and manhood taken up to God.
Through your Holy Spirit, you call all human kind to new birth in a creation restored by
love. As children of your redeeming purpose we offer you our praise.
Therefore with Angels and Archangels and with the whole company of heaven, we sing
the hymn of your unending glory:
Holy, holy, holy Lord, God of power and might, heaven and earth are full of your glory. Hosanna in the highest. Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord. Hosanna in the highest.

Glory and thanksgiving be to you, most loving Father, for the gift of your Son born in
human flesh. He is the Word existing beyond time both source and final purpose,
bringing to wholeness all that is made.
We thank you that through him you have freed us from our sin, giving him to die upon
the cross, and to rise again for us.
We give you thanks, for the joy of this Easter. Through the resurrection of your Son from
the dead, you made known to us the mystery of your will: in Christ, you reconciled the
world to yourself.
On the night before he died, he took bread and gave you thanks. He broke the bread,
gave it to his disciples and said:

‘Take, eat. This is my Body: it is broken for you.’

After supper, he took the cup; he offered you thanks, he gave it to them and said:

‘Drink this, all of you. This is my Blood of the new covenant: it is poured out for you and
for all men, that sins may be forgiven. Do this in remembrance of me.’

We now obey your Son’s command. We recall his blessed passion and death, his
glorious resurrection and ascension; and we look for the coming of his kingdom.
United with him, we offer you these gifts and ourselves with them; one, holy, and
living sacrifice.

Hear us, most merciful Father, and send your Holy Spirit upon us and upon this bread and
this wine, that overshadowed by his life-giving power they may be the Body and Blood
of your Son, and we may be kindled with the fire of your love and renewed for the
service of your kingdom.
Help us who are bound into the fellowship of your whole Church to live and work to your
praise and glory.
May we grow together in unity and love until at last in a renewed creation we share the
life of the Saints, in the company of the Virgin Mary, the Apostles and Prophets, and of
all our brothers and sisters living and departed.
Accept our offering through Jesus Christ our Lord, through whom, with whom and in
whom, all honour and glory be to you, Lord of all Ages, world without end. AMEN.

As our Savior Christ has taught us, we now pray,

Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your Name, your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as in heaven.
Give us today our daily bread.
Forgive us our sins as we forgive those who sin against us.
Save us from the time of trial, and deliver us from evil.
For the kingdom, the power, and the glory are yours, now and for ever. Amen
.

We break this bread, Seal of communion in Christ’s Body once broken, Pledge that his
Church may be the wheat which bears its fruit in dying.
Lord, unite us in this sign.

Happy are those who are invited to me marriage supper of the Lamb. Come. All is now
ready.
Lord, I am not worthy to receive you, but only say the word, and I shall be healed.

POST-COMMUNION PRAYER

Give thanks to the Lord, for he is gracious.

For his mercy endures for ever.
We have broken the Bread which is Christ’s Body, we have tasted the Wine of Life;
we thank you for these gifts by which we are made one in Jesus and drawn into that
new creation which is your will for all mankind; through him who died for us and
rose again, your Son, Christ our Lord. Amen.

THE BLESSING

The peace of God which passes all understanding, keep your hearts and minds in the
knowledge and love of God, and of his Son Jesus Christ our Lord: And the blessing of God Almighty, the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit, be among you, and remain with you
always. Amen.

HYMN: FINITA IAM SUNT PRAELIA HA&M. 135

THE DISMISSAL

Go in peace to love and serve the Lord.
In the name of Christ. Amen.
